Exclusive to Wilchem in Australia · In-Soil Monitoring

See what’s happening below the surface. In real time.

Aquaspy is the only commercial broadacre probe in Australia that measures nitrate concentration and redox potential alongside moisture, temperature and electrical conductivity. Standard probes tell you when the soil is wet. Aquaspy tells you whether your nitrogen is still there — and whether your soil biology is working.

Stage 1 of the Wilchem Nutrient Journey

Aquaspy is where the program starts.

Monitor what’s happening below the surface — then act on it. Aquaspy is the first stage of a four-stage program that turns visibility into yield.

01 Monitor

Know your soil

Aquaspy

Real-time in-soil monitoring of moisture, nitrate movement and biological activity (redox/ORP) through the season. Shows where nitrogen is, where it’s going, and whether the biology is working.

Drives every decision. No more guesswork.

02 Establish

Feed the soil

Rowloader

In-furrow conditioning and macro-nutrient delivery at seeding — the soil chemistry foundation the biological program depends on.

Sets the foundation.

03 Activate

Build the biology

Biotics

Microbial inputs through the season — supporting the rhizosphere environment and improving the plant’s ability to access what’s in the soil.

Builds the biological engine.

04 Convert

Deliver to the plant

Signature

Amino acid chelated trace element nutrition — the speciality trace nutrition the plant needs to turn available nitrogen into protein and yield.

Closes the loop.

What Aquaspy measures

Five readings. One probe. Live, every day.

Most broadacre probes report on moisture and temperature. Aquaspy adds the two readings that change in-season decisions — nitrate and redox.

Aquaspy-Only

Nitrate concentration

Is your N still in the root zone?

Standard probes can’t see nitrogen. Aquaspy measures nitrate at depth, in real time, so you know whether the N you applied is still where the crop can reach it — or whether it’s already moved past the root zone.

Aquaspy-Only

Redox potential (ORP)

Is your soil biology functioning?

Soil biological oxygen status is a practical indicator of microbial activity and nutrient cycling. Aquaspy is the only commercial broadacre probe in Australia that includes redox alongside the standard readings.

Standard

Soil moisture

Stability through the season

Moisture at depth, tracked continuously. The variable that — more than any other — distinguishes a top-graded zone from a downgraded one, even in the same paddock under the same fertiliser program.

Standard

Soil temperature

Driver of biological activity

Temperature governs both crop development and the microbial activity that drives nutrient cycling. Tracked at multiple depths in the soil profile.

Standard

Electrical conductivity (EC)

Salinity and ion movement

EC measures the salt content of the soil solution — an early warning for salinity, and a useful indicator of how ions are moving through the profile.

Why It Matters

Decisions, not just data

Visibility, in time to act

The point isn’t more graphs. It’s a different kind of conversation — one where you and your agronomist know what’s actually happening below the surface, in time to do something about it.

Standard probes vs Aquaspy

What standard probes can’t tell you.

A standard probe says

“The soil is wet.”

Useful, but only half the picture. You’re left to assume the nitrogen is still where the crop can use it — and to assume the biology is functioning.

Aquaspy says

“There’s nitrate at 30 cm, redox is shifting, and your moisture is stable.”

Actionable, in time to do something about it. The difference between guessing where your N has gone — and seeing where it’s gone.

On WA sandplain soils, where nitrogen can move out of the root zone within days of a rainfall event, that distinction isn’t academic. It changes decisions.

What Aquaspy revealed in the WA grainbelt.

Three observations from sites in the Wilchem Nitrogen Use whitepaper — different paddocks, different seasons, different decisions.

Harvey, WA

Nitrogen left the root zone in 14 days.

Urea-applied N, tracked at depth

Aquaspy monitoring captured a clear nitrate spike at depth within 14 days of urea application, then movement into the 30 cm layer — beyond effective root capture at that growth stage. Standard moisture probes would never have seen it.

Frankland River, WA

Same paddock. Two CBH grades.

Moisture stability as the dividing line

Within a single paddock under identical fertiliser management, the moisture-stable zone (Probe 11) returned 12.26% protein and a CBH rank of 4. The variable-moisture zone (Probe 2) returned 10.4% protein and a CBH rank of 12.

Moora & Wannamal, WA

Biology shifts you can’t see without the data.

Aquaspy + ARISA together

Rhizosphere sampling under biological treatment showed measurable shifts in the microbial community. At Moora, a 50% fertiliser rate under the biological system produced yield in the same statistical group as the 100% rate — 4,084 vs 4,720 kg/ha.

Why agronomists use Aquaspy

Aquaspy opens a different kind of conversation. Not just “how much nitrogen should we apply” — but “where is it going, and what can we do about it?”

The probe creates an ongoing data relationship with the grower — visibility through the season that supports better program recommendations across the full Wilchem range.
